Water softener checklist:

When you plan to purchase a water softener plant, there are a number of choices you can make. These choices determine which softener suits your household so that you always have soft water. You can use the following checklist to come to the right conclusion regarding your new water softener.

The benefits of a water softener:

Water softeners plant to filter water so that it goes to a pH value of below 3. With this hardness, the scale will no longer form. This is done by a filter filled with resin granules and cleaning salt with which it is automatically cleaned every so often. Soft water has many advantages. The use of soap products can be reduced by 50 percent, limescale in devices and on the bathroom wall will no longer occur and your devices will, therefore, need less power to work. In addition, your skin feels less dry, you will suffer less from skin problems and your hair is shinier. And at the same time, you contribute to a better environment. All of this is good news, but how do you determine what the right water softener is for you?

First check: electronic or mechanical:

It is useful to first tick whether you want an electronic or a mechanical water softener. Mechanical machines are easier to operate and only use a time switch. You can set this so that it filters when you need water. This water softener works with the pressure of the water, so you do not need electricity. A disadvantage is that it will also filter when you are away for a weekend because it does not look at your water use. An electronic water softener does everything automatically and works on demand. It has several setting options, such as the PH value of the water, a monitor of the use of water and when you want to flush the filters. This machine is more expensive, but more effective because it will only work when real water is needed.

Second check: single or double cylinder

The difference between a machine with a single and a double cylinder is that with a double cylinder you can filter more volume of water and that you also have soft water available when the machine is cleaning one of the filters. These machines are more expensive but therefore offer more comfort. If you have a household where a lot of water is used, it is better to use a water softener with two filters. If your household is small, then one filter is fine.

Third check: how much water do you use?

After you have decided whether you want an electronic or a mechanical machine and whether you want to run it with one or two cylinders, it is time to look at your use of water. It is important that the water softener can handle your question. If you use a lot of water, a larger machine is necessary.

Fourth check: where will the water softener be placed?

The place where the water softener is placed requires a drain. That means a sewer or a trap. If you do not have this at your disposal, you may have to have it installed. Consider carefully where you want the water softener. In addition, they can also make a lot of noise when they are filtering. It is therefore not convenient to place this machine in a living area or near a bedroom.

Fifth check: whether or not a maintenance contract

You now know which softener you want to purchase, but what about aftercare? You often have the machine installed by the supplier from whom you purchased it and these often also offer other services, such as repair service and maintenance service. It is also important that you are aware of the guarantee scheme. If you do not want to have to worry about your water softener, it is best to conclude an arrangement with the supplier. Such a maintenance contract usually means that the salt is topped up, that they do a water test every year and that they also clean the machine, lubricate it and replace the worn parts. Repairs are often free. However, you can also decide not to use this and do the maintenance yourself. This is not difficult and you can easily buy a water test.
